Imagine H2O announces 4-year partnership with USAID

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 29, 2015 - Imagine H2OTM, the leading accelerator for water innovation, announced a 4-year partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to support innovative, high-impact technologies and business models addressing water scarcity around the world. Imagine H2O will provide accelerator services to entrepreneurs through its collaboration with USAID's Securing Water for Food: A Grand Challenge for Development—a multi-year initiative launched at the 2013 World Water Week in Stockholmin partnership with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Securing Water for Food aims to remove the barriers for promising innovators to launch and scale businesses at the nexus of agriculture and water. From low-cost irrigation efficiency technologies to new drought-resistant seed treatments, the program will serve as a powerful vehicle to showcase a range of market-based solutions that boost water efficient agricultural practices. Imagine H2O's direct support aims to position these businesses for financial sustainability and maximum social and environmental impact.

"This program will play an instrumental role in uncovering new solutions to enable food production in water-stressed regions of the world," commented Ku McMahan, Team Lead, USAID's Global Development Lab. "Imagine H2O and our partners are at the frontlines of this challenge, helping entrepreneurs test and refine their business models to deliver impact and scale."

Imagine H2O's own programming has supported over 450 water technology startups in more than twenty countries. This contract with the USAID represents a major opportunity to identify and provide value to water entrepreneurs trying to introduce new technologies in developing countries.

"We're optimistic about the expanding interest in entrepreneurial approaches to the global water challenge," explains Scott Bryan, President of Imagine H2O. "Our work with USAID validates our organization's ability to contribute in new ways and provide real value to innovators regardless of geography and market."

By expanding its ability to support water innovation in developing countries, Imagine H2O will ensure that a new wave of entrepreneurs stand to benefit from its accelerator program as well as access a global network of leaders in the water sector, government and social enterprise.
