Why participate?

Imagine H2O Asia unlocks access to water innovation across the region— connecting global startups to new markets, partners, and pilot support from our Singapore hub.

Communities across Asia are on the front lines of the global water and climate crisis. In response, the region is embracing innovative water solutions. Imagine H2O Asia helps startups capture these opportunities.

We maintain a dual focus: we help global water startups adapt their solutions to serve the urgent needs of South and Southeast Asia, and support emerging entrepreneurs from the region as they seek to commercialize new technologies.

Imagine H2O Asia @ Singapore International Water Week'22

This April, 20 of our startups from 8 countries featured their solutions at our Innovation Pavilion and Startup Demo Day.
Our startups benefited from extensive industry visibility, with curated pavilion tours and scheduled visits from Manila Water, the World Bank, and more.
Through pitching practice, 1-on-1 meetings with IH2O Asia mentors as well as industry-specific webinars, our companies were well positioned to pitch their solution to a large audience at SIWW.
The program concluded with a networking event at the PUB Waterhub, with additional 1-on-1 meetings scheduled with IH2O Asia advisors.
Startups also got to hear from PUB staff directly and learn about their problem statements, as well as the different ways to pilot with utilities.

Pilot Funding

Water Technology Access Partnership (WTAP)

A Pilot Funding & Innovation Learning Platform

This World Bank-supported initiative creates new opportunities for piloting solutions with water and wastewater service providers across the Asia-Pacific.

Our innovators need support to test and validate their solutions in new markets across South and Southeast Asia. But utility and industrial customers may lack the resources to fund pilot projects. In collaboration with the World Bank Water Global Practice, WTAP aims to make innovation more accessible by providing the resources to jumpstart these collaborations.

The program provides support to identify and localize relevant solutions, co-fund demonstration projects, and document and share findings globally to inspire wider replication. From reducing utility losses in small urban systems in Cambodia to mapping arsenic-contaminated groundwater in South Asia, WTAP sources technologies across a range of challenges affecting the region.

We invite new partners to join as we deepen our engagement in Asia and expand our reach to new geographies.

Case Study

Leela and Shailesh worked to identify illegal industrial discharge of heavy metals entering Singapore's sewage systems

Cohort

Imagine H2O Asia 2

Focus Area

Water Quality

Environsens and SpaceAge Labs found each other through Imagine H2O Asia’s inaugural cohort, during the program’s startup bootcamp. As fellow Singaporean companies, they saw a potential collaboration: a combined solution to tackle the industrial discharge of heavy metals in Singapore’s sewage systems.

While Environsens’ biosensor could effectively monitor toxicity levels, it was unable to aggregate and transmit that data across multiple assets. SpaceAge Labs offered a low-power, wireless communications and analytics platform that could enable Environsens and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, to view data in real-time. By improving the efficiency of wastewater monitoring and surveillance, Environsens and SpaceAge Labs were able to save the utility both time and money. At the same time, they protected Singapore’s waterways from toxic industrial discharge. The companies have installed 100+ joint systems across Singapore to date, with an additional 75 to be installed in the coming year.

Every aspect of the Imagine H2O Asia program was well-designed and relevant for a water startup like ours. The opportunity to hear from industry veterans and alumni who understand the unique challenges of growing a business in the water sector was a highlight for us.

Case Study

Reducing non-revenue water in Philippines through data analytics and AI

Cohort

Urban Water Challenge I, Imagine H2O Asia 2

Focus Area

Water Efficiency & Conservation

When SmartTerra joined Imagine H2O Asia’s second cohort, their pilot projects—examining the root causes of non-revenue water—had been limited to utilities in India. They knew that neighboring markets needed a cost-effective solution to the same problem. South Asian utilities were struggling to tackle water leaks, under-registering meters, unauthorized consumption, and other drivers of non-revenue water—all of which resulted in losses as high as 50% in some cities in the region.

Though these utilities had increasing access to data, they needed help using it to boost revenue. Within the first three months, IH2O Asia’s team and network of in-country advisors helped SmartTerra secure its first project with a Philippines utility. The project’s first phase analyzed the operator’s 15,000 connections.

Just weeks into the program, Imagine H2O Asia and its mentors got us our first pilot. IH2O Asia truly enables market access! We also got a broad level of engagement, where we made presentations to funding agencies such as ADB and the World Bank; heard hard-nosed advice from industry leaders; and showcased our company at SIWW. The team isn’t just running a great program—they have become our best partners.
